EPP helps Henllan Bakery scale up with Koenig Combiline

Growing bakery futureproofs business to double bread roll capacity

Henllan Bakery has invested in an additional Koenig Combiline from EPP to double its bread roll production capacity. The family craft wholesale bakery delivers breads and rolls across North-Mid Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire with plans to expand further across South Wales. The new Combiline is due to be delivered in February 2024, and can deliver up to 10,000 rolls per hour.

The family run bakery has a longstanding relationship with the team at EPP, having purchased its existing Koenig Combiline back in 2009. Tom Moore, Production Director, and a fifth-generation baker, commented, “This new Koenig line means we can quickly double our capacity if needed. The new machine adds more reliability and added efficiency plus has an added advantage of an additional hoist hopper, to help protect our employees from the strenuous heavy lifting of the dough. Our employees are very excited by the investment in the new machine and the growth that it can help the business achieve.”  

Henllan Bakery’s current site in Denbigh has been in operation since 1973 and it now employs 136 staff as one of the largest employers in the town, with 22 delivery vans delivering fresh quality baked produce throughout the region. It supplies bread and rolls, cakes and savoury and baked treats to businesses in the region – from small shops to large supermarkets – and has an established family baking history dating back over 100 years.

Tom added, “We had no hesitation in going back to EPP and Koenig for another Combiline – we have been really pleased with the reliability, support and service we have received over the years from both EPP and Koenig. The team at EPP comes in twice a year to service and maintain the equipment and we find they are very reliable. It amazes me how far technology and automation has taken us in a short time. I remember when I was young and the days when the dough was shaped by hand, to now having a six-pocket industrial size machine is fantastic – this means the products we produce are consistent, of high quality and we as a business are more efficient.”
